Speech:
The Dangers of Development
By Tadhg O’Connell
Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen I shall be talking to you about the dangers of technological development and how people must know what the problems with new technology are. My speech will be divided into three parts Artificial Intelligence, Global Dangers and Warfare.
Firstly, some of the world’s top scientists including Stephen Hawking and Elon Musk have declared Artificial intelligence to be a danger. Artificial intelligence can be dangerous for economic reasons with atomisation becoming popular many jobs will become lost. Taxi drivers will be the first to experience this struggle with the dawn of self-driving cars can destroy their jobs.
Secondly, Artificial Intelligence can challenge other jobs also like Soliciting and teaching. While the government proposes tax on robotic workers to solve these issues but will these measures be enough to deal with the high unemployment rate spike. Why are we creating a world in which we ourselves are becoming redundant?
My Second point is that global dangers caused by machinery. Without doubt, you all know about global warming and if you disagree with multiple studies with conclusive scientific evidence from respected and renowned scientists, you most likely listen to Info wars and or are a Trump supporter. You will notice the many natural disasters in our world today which is over seventy at time of writing one could say it looks like the end of the world and with the destruction of the ozone layer,
it is easy to conclude that something is happening and we have to have some effect. When you get a virus, you get a fever. That is the human body raising its core temperature to kill the virus. Planet Earth works the same way: Global warming is the fever, mankind is the virus. We are making our planet sick. There's only one of two ways this can go: The host kills the virus, or the virus kills the host. Either way...
Finally War with most countries funding military projects and the development of new robotic soldiers and drones commonly used by the U.S.A. in Syria. An example of these are drones which the USA is a fan of using these in war These could become catastrophic consequences, as people could be taken out of war from warfare so we will trust machines to tell friend from foe. Combatant from Civilian?
To conclude I do not wish people to abandon technology and run into the forest I adore technology but I fear people are techno-optimists and forget these dangers.
Familiarity breeds contempt.
