For mya Work Experience I went with Andrew Doyle the Minister Of State Food, Forestry and Agriculture. My time was split between his Wicklow Office and the Dail.
My First three days were spent in his Wicklow office and I helped to canvas which is going out and talking people to get there votes.
I went around an estate in Wicklow handing out fliers and talking to people along the way it was good as the weather was superb so I didn’t have to worry about getting rained on.
I was then Writing press releases for the website.
My final Day in the Wicklow Office Saw me walk up the main street in Wicklow and give the fliers out to the local businesses and I was delighted to see the way almost everyone accepted and seemed almost eager to take them.
I then went to the Dail the following Day and got a tour of the dail and I got to see our parliament in action and it was surreal to see that these were the people that lead our country. I can’t say that I was enthralled as I say that there was people going after each other and while the plans that seemed sensible to me like why are we making new schools while there are examples of failing ones were shot down and shoved under the rug. I found that a bit troubling but I digress.
I found the whole experience to be good and I was interested the whole time but at the same time I found that it was really not a career choice for me. I’m not sure where the feeling of unease came from wether it was the actual politics of the Dail or the idea of your job revolving around your votes so you must be quiet about your opinion is not something I would care or be interested in.
